Access through the EIFL-Ukraine Consortium

Students, faculty, and visitors of American University Kyiv have been granted access to the SAGE Premier Collection of academic journals.

Through cooperation with the Ukrainian Consortium EIFL-Ukraine, users of the American University Kyiv Library now have the opportunity to access the full texts of periodicals published by the globally renowned academic publisher SAGE Publications. The SAGE Premier Collection includes more than 1,050 peer-reviewed scholarly journals in the fields of business, humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, and medicine. It provides institutions with electronic access to over one million research articles and perpetual access to the subscribed content. Archives dating back to 1999 are available.

Users accessing the website from the River Port campus IP address will be automatically authenticated. Once authenticated, they may immediately begin using the resources.

“Associating for Computer Machinery” brings together computing educators, researchers, and professionals to inspire dialogue, share resources, and address the field's challenges. ACM and its ACM Digital Library currently offer the complete subscription contents of the licenced material of more than 117500 articles published between 1951 and the end of 2000. The topics include Computing, Information Technology, Software Engineering, Database Systems, Data Analytics, Cybersecurity, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Computer Networks, Information Systems, Internet, Mobile and Multimedia Technologies.  

AUK library provides access to ACM(DL) database via campus IP address. Systematic downloads of entire journals/books are not permitted.

The R4L programmes are coordinated by the World Health Organization, the Food and Agriculture Organization, the United Nations Environment Programme, the World Intellectual Property Organization, and the International Labour Organization. The programmes are a collaboration between the UN entities, academic, professional, and scientific publishers.

With R4L, American University Kyiv’s students have access to a wide range of academic, professional and scientific journals, abstract and indexing databases, and other content resources.

JSTOR currently offers more than 12 million academic journal articles, 100 thousand books, 3 million images, and 2 million primary source documents in 75 disciplines.

Students, staff and visitors at the American University Kyiv have unrestricted access to the world-renowned JSTOR digital library while on the River Port campus. This access does not require additional registration or open VPN and is directly available via the campus's IP address. Essentially, this means you can directly access the vast array of JSTOR content anytime you're connected to the campus WiFi. Simply visit https://www.jstor.org and select 'Search' or 'Browse' from the menu bar. Systematic downloads of entire journals/books are not permitted.

Thanks to the efficient workflows, the typical turnaround time for RapidILL is under 24 hours, so you can expect to find most of your requests delivered within that time.  

If you cannot find a specific scientific article or book chapter in the AUK Library resources, please submit your request to RapidILL. To complete the request in the RapidILL service, you need to know the title, author, ISSN/ISBN (as applicable), and the publication year of the book or journal. Web of Science Core Collection

   The Web of Science platform is owned by Clarivate Analytics, which specializes in indexing more than 33,000 publications across all disciplines, with an archive dating back to 1864. Today, the Web of Science platform contains 15 databases created by Clarivate Analytics and its partners. The core of the collection is the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) scientometric database, which includes citation indexes for periodical publications in the natural and technical sciences — the Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE); in social sciences — the Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI); and in the humanities — the Arts and Humanities Citation Index (AHCI). Since 2015, WoSCC has been expanded to include the multidisciplinary Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI), with an archive dating back to 2005.

   As part of its efforts to support Ukraine's education during the full-scale invasion, the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine has reached an agreement with the world-renowned informal education platform Udemy Business to provide free access to a collection of its most popular courses for Ukrainian students. Udemy Business offers Ukrainian users access to 12,000 online courses in the following disciplines: Business Operations, Cloud Computing, Cybersecurity, Data Science, Development, IT Operations, Leadership & Management, Marketing, and Language Learning. Upon successful completion of a course, users receive a certificate of completion.

Membership

Students and staff of AUK automatically receive library membership. Services in the reading room (Room 401), where the collection of printed publications is housed, are available upon presentation of a student ID or university employee pass. Access to databases such as JSTOR, ACM (DL), Cambridge Core, and Oxford Academic is granted directly through the AUK Wi-Fi network on the "River Port" campus. Licensed electronic resources are provided to students and faculty based on their syllabi. Other university members requiring access to paid licensed resources should contact the librarian at library@auk.edu.ua for activation. For security reasons, external users are not served during the period of martial law.

Regulation of the AUK Library

The Regulation on the Library of AUK outlines the primary tasks and principles guiding the library’s operations as a structural unit of the University, including its management, staffing, and material and technical support. It governs the principles for the development of the library collections in alignment with the University’s academic programs and research focus. The Regulation was drafted and approved based on the Charter of the Limited Liability Company "Higher Educational Institution 'American University Kyiv," in accordance with Article 12 of the Law of Ukraine "Про бібліотеки і бібліотечну справу" the Law of Ukraine "Про вищу освіту" and the Law of Ukraine "Про освіту." It was enacted by order of the rector of American University Kyiv.

Rules

The rules for using the library and its information resources outline the rights and obligations of users concerning both the library space and the terms for using licensed digital content. These rules establish fines for damage to physical materials and outline responsibilities for non-compliance with the terms of use for licensed electronic resources. While food is not permitted in the library reading room, drinks in closed containers are allowed. Licensed content must be used individually, with access provided via a personal login and password, which must not be shared with third parties. The content is for non-commercial, educational, academic, and instructional purposes only.

Reports

The AUK library submits annual reports on its activities to the Rector of the University for approval. These reports cover the main aspects of library and information services, including the availability of books for the educational process, the cataloging and accounting of new acquisitions, interlibrary loan exchanges, user services, payment for licensed resources and databases, scientific and methodological activities, participation in conferences, publishing efforts, cultural outreach, and international cooperation with libraries and information resource providers.
